A friend of mine mentioned that there had been some earthquakes lately, and knowing that I am sensitive to the movement of the earth asked me if I had felt some tremors from an earthquake in California that had happened a few days earlier. My mind thought back to a moment when I noticed something that could have been an earthquake but I had been moving in some other way, so I couldn’t tell for sure.
This brings me to the concept of degrees of awareness. I have a gift to be able to feel tremors that most people don’t notice. The thing is that I feel them when I tune into them. The first time this happened to me, I was living in Chile, where there are daily earthquakes most of the year. One night a few months after I moved there I was awakened by a 5.5 earthquake. My bed was shaking, and I wondered if I should do anything. Before that day, I hadn’t noticed the movement. After that earthquake, my body was in tune with them, and I felt movement on a daily basis. One time after a fairly strong earthquake hit several miles to the north of Santiago, for the next two months I would feel aftershocks every few minutes. The movement has different characteristics, depending on the earthquake. Sometimes it is a jiggle, other times it feels like waves, sometimes the movement is circular, other times it is not. I remember getting so tired of feeling seasick with these aftershocks that were like being on a boat at sea that I decided to tune them out.
Where I live in Utah, the movements I feel of the earth are usually less than a 3.0 and often many miles away. When I get tired of feeling those movements all the time, I choose to tune them out. But today I decided to notice. And I decided to notice what effect the movements had on me. Do these micro movements change my balance? Do they change the way I move, in other words, do I respond to the subtle movement? If so, how? I felt the waves for only a few brief seconds a few times today, and it left before I got a chance to answer those questions. I wonder what answers I will get next time I notice and take the time to observe and analyze.
