One of the things that I love about living more and more years is that I am able to see the big picture better. I am one of those people who likes to get into the details and my native way of approaching a task is to break it down into smaller pieces and work on the details, then gradually put them together into a whole. I am a violinist, and for the first twenty or so years that I played, I approached every piece of music by breaking it down into details. I had a very hard time seeing the big picture until I was well acquainted with the details. Then one day something happened, and I started being able to see the bigger picture, not just in the music I was playing, but the bigger picture in all areas of my life. Since then, I have been fascinated with seeing general patterns in human beings.
One thing that I have noticed through the years is that one of the biggest motivators that people have for making changes in their life is pain. Pain is something we feel in our bodies. There is physical pain, which may be the result of an injury or illness. There is mental pain, emotional pain, and even spiritual pain. No matter what pain we are experiencing, we experience it through our bodies.
The people I know who have had the greatest impact on the greatest number of people through the work they devoted themselves to, started doing that work as a result of some painful experience that impacted them greatly. Most people who are driven to change the world for the better in a particular way have first been through something hard. Hard could mean a debilitating illness, an injury, the death of a loved one, mental illness, low energy, allergies, rejection, and so on. Though none of us particularly likes to have our body experience pain, it can serve us by helping us realize what is most important to us and spurs us on to action. It takes us on journeys we would never have gone on otherwise. It has the potential to transform us into something extraordinary and live a life full of meaning.
These are the journeys I want to help facilitate through this virtual healing center project. I hope those who read my blog will be inspired to move forward on your healing journey. What resources do you want and need in order to move forward on your transformational journey? If you were part of a healing community, what would you want it to look like? Please leave a comment with your feedback.
